On Site Competent Person for Excavation Safety Training Class
The excavation competent person safety training class is designed to train workers, supervisors, and/or safety managers whom the employer has appointed as their "competent person" for excavation sites about hazards that are commonly present at the excavation site, and the precautions to protect their workers from those hazards. Topics typically covered in the class include a review of the OSHA excavation regulations, how to test and classify soil types per the OSHA standard, protective system requirements for shoring, trench shields, and sloping and benching systems, hazardous atmospheres in trenches, inspection requirements, and more.
The competent person for excavation safety training class can be conducted at the site for a group of people. Each trainee will receive a copy of Subpart P (excavation standards) of OSHA CFR 1926 and other useful handouts as part of their course materials. Once trainees sucessfully finish their class, they will be issued certificates of completion to certify they completed the training.
